What We Do
The skin is the largest organ in the body and serves several functions vital to our physical and emotional wellbeing. When skin is lost through trauma, disease or surgery the body is endangered with life threatening infection and the loss of blood, fluid and essential salts. The formation of scars can affect a person’s ability to move and function in society. Scars can also cripple a person emotionally.
Research has shown that the formation of scars is significantly reduced if the wound heals quickly. A burn wound that takes 21 days or more to heal has a 70% or greater risk of developing a significant scar. A burn wound that heals in less than 10 days has only a 4% risk of developing a hypertrophic scar.
Skin grafts that are harvested from healthy areas of the patient’s own skin (biopsy) and grown in the laboratory (cultured epithelial autografts) have gained wide acceptance within the burns community. Despite the acceptance of this technology, these grafts traditionally require large areas of healthy tissue to be taken from the patient, take weeks to grow, are typically very fragile and may fail to conform to the wound’s surface when grafted onto a wound.
C3 has developed several, proprietary products that can be used to treat skin disorders. Our products use small samples of the patient’s own skin to rapidly produce skin that covers wounds and minimises the formation of scars.
